Tallow balm is one of the most straightforward products I have ever used, which is a big part of why I wanted to build a brand around it. No complicated routines, no layering system, no waiting for one thing to dry before you apply the next. You warm it in your hands and put it on your skin. That is basically it. But a few simple habits will help you get better results, especially if you are coming from a conventional skincare routine.
Start Small
Tallow is concentrated and rich. A little genuinely goes a long way. Most people use way too much the first time and end up feeling greasy. Start with a pea-sized amount for your face or a grape-sized amount for larger body areas. Press it between your fingertips first to warm it up, then press and smooth it into your skin rather than rubbing aggressively. It melts quickly with body heat.
Apply to Damp Skin
Right after washing your face or stepping out of the shower, while your skin is still slightly damp, is the best time to apply. The moisture helps the balm spread more easily and locks hydration in as the balm creates a light occlusive layer on top. For very dry or damaged skin this step makes a noticeable difference.
Use It Wherever You Need It
Our Tallow Body Balm works on your whole body. Dry elbows, cracked heels, rough patches, cuticles, lips, hands, the works. It is formulated with grass-fed tallow, organic jojoba oil, organic vanilla essential oil, and arrowroot powder, which helps with that silky finish and keeps it from feeling heavy. Our Face Balm has a different formula built specifically for the face, with squalane, jojoba oil, bakuchiol, vitamin K2, vitamin E, arrowroot powder, lavender, and frankincense. Both are designed to replace a handful of separate products with one thing that actually does the job.
Give Your Skin Time to Adjust
If you have been using conventional skincare products for years, your skin may take a few weeks to find its balance with a simpler routine. Some people experience a brief adjustment period where existing congestion works its way out. This is normal. Give it three to four weeks before making any judgments. The skin's relationship with what you put on it does not change overnight.
Morning and Night
Once a day is enough for most people. Twice a day works well for dry or compromised skin. At night you can be slightly more generous since your skin does most of its repair work while you sleep. A thin layer in the morning gives you all-day moisture without feeling heavy by midday.
Storage
Store it at room temperature, away from direct sun and heat. It will soften in warmer environments and firm up in cool ones. Both are fine. No refrigeration needed. A well-made tallow balm will stay good for a year or more without any preservatives because the fat itself is naturally stable.
